MCIPS (Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) is one of the most prestigious certifications a procurement professional can achieve. It is the gold standard of excellence across the globe and is the official mark of recognition from the leading procurement body, CIPS.

Is MCIPS Equivalent to a Degree?

While MCIPS itself is not equivalent to a degree, it is widely known that it is obtained after completing a degree or equivalent level of education. In the same way that you receive a post nominal when you complete a degree, when you achieve this certification, you will be able to use ‘MCIPS’ after your name.

The Benefits of MCIPS

MCIPS is highly sought after, with more than half of employers requesting the certification when recruiting. When you achieve MCIPS, you immediately become more employable in the procurement sector.

In addition to becoming more employable, you can also expect a higher salary. MCIPS-certified professionals earn a staggering 48% more than their non-certified counterparts. A professional earning a yearly salary of £43,526 in a procurement role without MCIPS could expect to earn £64,524 per year in the same role with MCIPS.

As well as the benefits on employability and salary potential, it is extremely advantageous for those progressing into management positions. Job applications for procurement manager roles will list MCIPS as essential. Or, at the very least, a desired certification which you must be willing to work towards. If you are hoping to progress in the procurement industry you will need to consider MCIPS for your career development.

MCIPS is more than just a credential; it’s a pathway to acquiring practical, real-world skills. These skills will serve to enhance not only your CV, but your day-to-day working life. With readily available resources and timely updates, you’ll swiftly recognise the positive impact on your career.

It is clear that MCIPS is essential for anyone pursuing a procurement career. It will give your professional reputation a boost, drive your career forward, and provide the opportunity to work with leading organisations. As mentioned, you will also benefit from better job prospects and a salary to match your expertise.
