Demand for purchasing and procurement professionals at all levels has increased sharply compared to 2010, according to figures published by CIPS and recruitment agency Hays Procurement.

The figures showed that demand for purchasing officers has risen by 200 per cent, with a 75 per cent increase in demand for purchasing managers.

The salaries offered were also on the increase, with a 35 per cent rise in the number of jobs offering salaries of £75,000-£100,000.

The boom in procurement jobs comes as businesses rely increasingly on purchasing and supply professionals to reduce costs and manage risks within an organisation.

However, it was stressed that purchasing professionals needed to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and abilities to get themselves noticed by employers. Pat Law, managing director at Hays Procurement  said “ There are some exciting procurement roles, but job seekers really need to demonstrate that they are a solid investment.”
