Public sector buyers in Jersey must improve their purchasing skills  to help deliver £65 million savings targets over the next three years, the Chief Executive of Jersey’s government has said.

Chief Executive John Richardson said that purchasing and supply training was key to achieving the necessary savings. His comments come shortly after the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply opened a CIPS branch in the Channel Islands.

Richardson also said that CIPS training in Jersey could lead to a CIPS-approved  ‘license to practise”, with only suitably qualified buyers allowed to work in procurement.

Richardson said: “In these economic times, we need to focus on getting value for money. Within the state of Jersey, we recognise the importance of procurement.”
